Vijay Eswaran was first-born in Malaysia to a family of Indian origin and is eldest among 25 cousins. He feels that elder ones grow up a little faster, get a little wiser, whereas the younger ones are more pampered.

Adds Eswaran, "worldwide, the eldest tend to be people who break new ground, take on challenges. We have greater responsibility because we were impromptu babysitters. We have to set an example. Everyone is looking up to you."

Vijay Eswaran secured an BA degree in economics from University of London in 1984 & then an MBA from Southern Illinois University in 1986. Eswaran also holds a diploma from LSJ (London School of Journalism) and did a stint at The Guardian.
